As the Communications and Marketing Manager for Healthy Places by Design, Sarah Moore develops and executes strategic communications plans, manages the organization’s brand identity, website, and blog, and serves as an in-house graphic designer and content creator. She also provides critical thinking related to the creative direction of the organization. She contributes to her team’s expertise in how access to nature improves community health through research, writing, and content development.
Sarah earned a Master of Architecture degree from Washington University in St. Louis with a portfolio that integrated architecture with urban design. She was a Danforth Scholar for the duration of her study there, an honor which recognized personal integrity, selflessness, and a commitment to community. Sarah also holds a B.A. in Architecture from Clemson University, where she was an Abney Foundation Scholar from 2005–2009.
In addition to her work as a communications strategist, Sarah also maintains an established practice as a visual artist. In her spare time, Sarah can be found hiking, gardening, and traveling.
I grew up as a “free range kid” before that term existed, running alone through forests and building forts from felled trees and spare tarps. This independent, project-oriented upbringing was a natural foundation for my decision to pursue an architecture degree.
Mid-way through completing a masters in architecture, I attended a Lively Cities workshop in Copenhagen, led by Gehl Architects. In many ways, that trip altered the trajectory of my career. The workshop focused on the relationship between cycling infrastructure and livability, and I came away with a fascination of urban design that eclipsed my interest in architecture. Specifically, an interest in how where we live profoundly affects quality of life.
