Bio

As a Senior Project Officer, Jamie Elliott provides equity-focused consultation, technical assistance, and support to community partnerships and local, state, and national partners. She coordinates learning across communities and lifts key lessons and best practices for creating healthy, vibrant places. Jamie believes in the power of collaboration and intentionally building partnerships, trust, and community. She connects people with one another and with resources to advance their goals.

Jamie’s career started at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention helping state health departments and partners improve systems for newborn hearing screening and follow-through services. Later, her work with the NC Division of Public Health (NCDPH) supporting local partnerships fueled her passion for community health and prevention. She employed a community-centered approach to lead the Catalyst for Healthy Eating and Active Living—a seven-year collaboration between rural NC counties, NCDPH, the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, and other partners. This experience deepened her understanding of systemic injustices and her commitment to advance strategies for health equity. Jamie continues to learn and support anti-racism efforts in her community through Raleigh Organizing Against Racism (ROAR). She holds an MPA from Syracuse University. Jamie came to Healthy Places by Design from Self-Help, a community development organization committed to economic opportunity.

Jamie enjoys outdoor adventures, playing games with her family and friends, and being active by running, biking, kayaking, or doing yoga. At home, her happy place is the porch.
